Avurudu Celebrations at 4 Axis.

December 20, 2016

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year or the ‘Aluth Avurudda’ as we like to call it in Sinhala, is an important national holiday for both Sinhala Buddhists and the Tamil Hindus in Sri Lanka. Yet it is celebrated with equal zest by every Sri Lankan, all differences aside. Unique to the Sri Lankan culture, this festival signifies the beginning of the new year as well as the conclusion of the old year as specified by astrologers. The auspicious dates fall on the second week of the month of April, specifically on the 13th and 14th and are followed by a series of traditional customs and rituals.

The customary rites and rituals (e.g. lighting of the hearth, cooking and partaking of milk-rice, transactions, etc) performed at the given auspicious times on the New Year day are followed by a wide range of other activities: exchanging visits, meals, and gifts with relatives, neighbours, and friends, etc.The ritual known as ‘weda alleema’ or starting work indicates the great importance attached to the potential success and prosperity of your work and work life in our culture.

4 Axis Solutions, like every other business initiative in Sri Lanka celebrated the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year after the auspicious dates, on the 20th of April 2015, by performing all ritualistic rites and customs; A makeshift hearth was prepared to boil the pot of milk to bring in good luck and blessings and a beautifully ladened Avurudu table filled with the traditional Avurudu meals and sweetmeats brought in by each employee was feasted on with great delight.

Performing all such activities as ‘one family’, the management and employees of 4 Axis Solutions proceeded on their journey with blessings and aspirations for a productive and prosperous year.
